sense and sensibility

This was a gift for my mother for Christmas. She teaches brit lit and is a great Jane Austen enthusiast, so I grew up seeing adaptation after adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion, Emma, etc.

This, however, is from Sense and Sensibility, and as I have never read the book it was influenced strongly by the Oscar-winning 1995 adaptation, scripted by and starring Emma Thompson, directed by Ang Lee, and also featuring Hugh Grant, Kate Winslet, Alan Rickman, and Hugh Laurie.

I understand it differs a lot from the source, but oh well.

I’m really impressed with your new website, and I also liked your Sense and Sensibility illustration. But why is the girl looking at an atlas, rather than reading Austen’s book? I had the initial feeling that the two women were living in her imagination as she reads.

    Happy New Year! Dad
